Revolutionizing Predictive Maintenance for WEISSER Precision Turning Machines with prenode Decentralized Machine Learning Solution

In collaboration with the WEISSER Group and the Hahn-Schickard-Gesellschaft, we developed a ground-breaking predictive maintenance solution for WEISSER precision turning machines. Our cooperation project “KIOWA“ aimed to leverage prenode's decentralized machine learning software (mlx) to predict maintenance events and optimize the performance of WEISSER machines.

Challenge

Traditional predictive maintenance solutions require companies to share their sensitive machine data, often compromising their privacy and security. Additionally, gathering sufficient data from a single machine alone may not generate accurate predictions.

WEISSER faced these challenges when seeking to implement an effective predictive maintenance service for their customers.

How we helped

To address these issues, we employed federated learning, a cutting-edge approach in the field of artificial intelligence. With prenode mlx, we can make use of multiple data sources and create robust machine learning models. Moreover, it allows the ML models on each machine to continuously learn from each other, enhancing their predictive capabilities over time.

Our solution ensures privacy, security, and accurate predictions by sharing knowledge across multiple machines while keeping the data on edge at individual sites.

- Peter Rath, Leiter Software-Engineering, WEISSER

Results

Our cooperation project brings a multitude of benefits to WEISSER customers in various aspects. Firstly, they will no longer need to disclose their sensitive data to WEISSER for predictive maintenance purposes, safeguarding their privacy and intellectual property. Moreover, the implementation of mlx significantly reduces the volume of transmitted data, easing network congestion and lowering operational costs. Additionally, the machines will no longer need to be continuously connected to the internet, ensuring uninterrupted production processes.

Intending to drive a manufacturing industry revolution, prenode introduces AI-based functionalities for distributed production as an additional service or to enhance local systems.
